The DC Extended Universe is in trouble. After the one-two-punch of misery that was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, many fans are hoping for some hope to show up in these movies. Rumors abound that WB and DC are restructuring and course-correcting behind the scenes: The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa left that project. Then there was the shakeup with The Batman: Batman himself Ben Affleck was supposed to helm the film, but dropped out. War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves was then announced to take over for Affleck, only to walk away, and then return and officially take the job. On top of that there are still rumors that Affleck wants out and no longer wants to don the cape and cowl.
Where does DC go from here?
They go to Wonder Woman! Will the Amazon warrior restore balance to the catastrophic DCEU? Will director Patty Jenkins succeed where Zack Snyder and David Ayer failed? I sure hope so! The fact that Zack Snyder has a writing credit on Wonder Woman gives one pause, but maybe Wonder Woman will soar where Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad stumbled.
Gal Gadot reprises her role as Wonder Woman, leading a cast that includes Chris Pine, Lucy Davis, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Danny Huston, and David Thewlis. A brand new trailer for the film has arrived today, and it continues to look promising. But Suicide Squad trailers looked pretty good too, and we all know how that turned out (not well).
Wonder Woman opens June 2, 2017. Watch the trailer, and check out a new poster, below.
