Horns is a novel by Joe Hill. Hill is a damn talented horror writer (and the son of Stephen King, so that probably helps). The film adaptation of Horns has had a strange life; it’s been finished for almost a year now, and early test screenings were very positive. Yet the film has yet to be released.

Well, if you’re in the U.K, you’re in luck, because Horns is getting a Halloween release there, and there’s a teaser trailer for it today. Unfortunately for us in the U.S., though, there’s still no release date.

The book, and presumably the movie, is about a down-and-out guy (played here by Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe) trying to get on with his life after the murder of his girlfriend (Juno Temple). Unfortunately, everyone in town thinks Radcliffe’s character is the murderer. And it certainly doesn’t help matters when he wakes up one day and finds gigantic horns growing out of his head. In the book, not only does the main character grow horns, he also grows the power to force people to admit their deepest, darkest secrets at will.

I liked the book for the most part, but felt it had a lot of third act problems (which is similar to the problems I had with Hill’s other two novels, Heart-Shaped Box and NOS4A2). Problems aside, Hill is a really good writer, and his book of short stories, 20th Century Ghosts, is fantastic from beginning to end.

Horns is directed by Alexandre Aja, who also directed the remake of The Hills Have Eyes.

Dig the teaser trailer below, and let me know what you think. Radcliffe’s American accent seems a little wonky, but this film shows promise. Hopefully we’ll all get to see it one day.
